What is PIP?

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit for people aged 16–64 who have a long-term physical or mental health condition, or disability, that affects their daily life. It’s not means-tested — your income and savings don’t affect whether you can get it.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible you must be aged 16 to State Pension age, have a health condition or disability that causes difficulties with daily living or getting around, and have had those difficulties for at least 3 months (and expect them to continue for at least 9 more).

How to claim

You start a claim by calling the PIP claim line: 0800 917 2222 (free from most phones). They’ll send you a form called “How your disability affects you” — this is the most important part of the application. Take your time and give as many real examples as possible.
