Meet Keiran: From Trainee to Team Member
Keiran joined 21YH two years ago not knowing what to expect. Today, he's one of our most experienced baristas and a mentor to new trainees.
“I wasn’t sure I could do it,” Keiran says, laughing slightly. “I’d never really had a proper job. I didn’t know how to talk to people. I didn’t think I was the kind of person who could work in a cafe.”
Two years on, Keiran is one of the first faces customers see when they come in. He knows their orders, their names, how they take their coffee. He’s also the unofficial go-to person for new trainees trying to figure out the milk steamer.
A different kind of learning
“It wasn’t just about coffee,” he explains. “It was about turning up. About figuring out how to handle a difficult day and still be professional. Those are the things I take everywhere with me now.”
Keiran recently started a part-time hospitality course and has plans to move into café management. We couldn’t be prouder.
